Detour officially opened June 1st as Moleskine and more than 800 guests partied at the ADC gallery on West 29th street. Attendees saw work by 70 artists, architects, photographers and graphic designers that Moleskine had invited to participate in the event, as well as Moleskine notebooks illustrated by undergraduates from Parsons School of Design. Moleskine invited guests to decorate or trace out the itineraries on maps of Manhattan that placed around the gallery space.

Fashion designer Caroline Herrera and her husband Reinaldo were seen at the event admiring the work of the Parsons illustration students. Paul Davis and his son Matt, both of whom had work in the Detour show`, talked to the Italian writer Luigi Gallo about the work he did for his Detour Moleskine notebook. Detour contributors Scott Henderson and Dror Benshetrit also made an appearance. Marzia Corraini, director of the Italian literary festival Festivaletteratura, attended, along with representatives of a broad selection of independent publishers and independent bookstores from New York and the West Coast.
